Perception of family responsibilities and its relationship to some variables among abused wives

Abstract

Women have a distinct and essential role and a supreme and decisive position in the development of human societies. The issue of women , especially violence against them , has become a priority issue , not only for women and their organizations . But also for all societies, civil institutions, specialists and educators, and for this we find that poor social organization within the family has a negative impact on all its members, so it was necessary to strengthen family bonds by developing the awareness of its members of their responsibilities, especially the wife to preserve the family entity and prevent it from disintegration, and in order for In order for married life to achieve its goals, there must be an understanding, realization and knowledge of the meaning of marital and family life, the expected responsibilities to bear it, the basic functions and roles played by each party in life. The realization of husbands and wives of their roles in family duties and responsibilities is considered the main entry point for solving many problems and difficulties that the family faces, and in contrast In the event that the spouses do not realize their family responsibilities, their lives may become an unbearable hell due to the large number of disputes and lack of consensus, and this may lead to the husband resorting to violence against her. The researcher aimed to identify the level of abused wives' awareness through the current research according to the following objectives: - To identify the level of family responsibilities (multi-dimensional) of abused wives and evaluate its statistical significance, to identify the relationship of abused wives' awareness of family responsibilities with some variables such as the level of education (moderate). and above - medium or below) and the material level is average and above - average or below) and the number of years of marriage (10 years and above - under 10 years). The researcher prepared a scale for the realization of family responsibilities among the abused wives, consisting of 47 items distributed over five domains. Basra Governorate for the year 2019. The results of the research indicated that the sample of abused wives had an average level of family responsibilities (multi-dimensional), where the level of family responsibilities was close to the hypothetical level, except for the dimension of emotional and sexual responsibility, which is less than the hypothetical level, which indicates a lack of awareness of the abused wives of emotional and sexual responsibilities. The results also indicated that there were no differences between the degrees of abused wives on the (multidimensional) scale of realization of family responsibilities according to the variable of education level (intermediate and above - intermediate and below) for all dimensions except for the self-responsibility dimension, where the calculated t-value was greater than the tabular value, which indicates that There is a statistically significant difference in favor of the middle and above. As for the material level, the results indicated that there are differences in the material level in favor of the average and higher in the two dimensions of self-responsibility and intellectual and economic responsibility. The results of the research also indicated that there were no differences in the perception of family responsibilities according to the number of years of marriage for all dimensions except for the dimension of self-responsibility in favor of (10 years or more).
