Abstract

In the current study, a mixture of filamentous green algae consisting of the following genera: Chara, Cladophora, and Spirogyra was obtained from some water bodies in the city of Baghdad. The above algae samples were dried in a refractory oven and then ground using a ceramic mortar. The above algae powder was mixed with soil prepared in pots with a mixing ratio of: 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 g per kg of soil, in addition to a control sample free of algae. After that, the seeds of the wheat plant were planted in the soil above, and their growth was monitored, and the following characteristics related to growth were studied, namely the average plant height per experimental unit (pot) every 10 days, and the wet and dry weight of the plant at the end of the study. The number of spikes was calculated at the end of the experiment as an indicator or evidence of the yield and its components . The results showed a significant increase (p < 0.05) when comparing the different treatments, especially the last concentration (10.0 g / kg) with the control sample, as it recorded an increase of 37.5%, 18.3%, 42.1% and 57.1% in the average values of plant height and fresh plant weight. dry and the number of spikes, respectively.
