The Effect of the (Carousel) Strategy on Mental Fitness among Fifth Grade Primary Students in Science

This study explores the impact of the (Carousel) Strategy on mental fitness among fifth grade primary students in science. The study formulates the following null hypothesis: "There is no statistically significant difference at the significance level (0.05) between the mean scores of students in the experimental group, who study science using the (Carousel) Strategy, and the mean scores of students in the control group, who study the same subject using traditional methods, on the mental fitness scale prepared for this purpose."
A quasi-experimental design with partial control for two equivalent groups was employed. A random sample of 74 students from "Abi Al-Darda Primary School for Boys," under the Diyala Education Directorate – Baqubah District, was selected. The sample was divided into two groups: an experimental group (38 students) and a control group (36 students) during the first semester of the academic year 2024-2025. A mental fitness scale consisting of 20 items was developed and validated for reliability and validity.
Statistical methods, including Cronbach's alpha, discriminant validity, chi-square, and Pearson correlation coefficient, were utilized. The results revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group in mental fitness. Based on these findings, the researchers concluded that employing the (Carousel) Strategy positively impacts students' mental fitness. Consequently, the researchers recommend integrating the (Carousel) Strategy into primary science education and suggest further studies across different educational levels.
