The effect of a training program to develop counseling interview skills among educational counselors

Abstract

The counseling interview is the main axis around which the counseling and guidance process revolves, and it requires experience, knowledge and skill on the part of the counselor, as it is a professional and technical relationship, and this relationship depends on communication between the counselor and the counselor. Continuous communication in the claim has a fundamental role in the success of the counseling process. . Lovoie (1994, p1) There are many educational counselors who possess some characteristics and skills that are specific to the personality of the successful counselor. They may have successful leadership and successful management in the interview, but they may lack the techniques and skills of asking questions or preparing for the interview and other techniques required in the counseling interview. The problem of the current research is to answer the following question: What is the effect of the training program on developing counseling interview skills among educational counselors? The importance of the current research is evident in the following: 1- Lack of studies on the topic of training on counseling interview skills 2- Providing a training program that helps workers in counseling to develop their counseling skills 3- Presenting a ready-made scale to measure the skills of the counseling interview 4- It draws the attention of researchers to such research and aims The research aims to 1- Build a measure of the counseling interview skills of the educational counsellors. 2- Building a training program for the counseling interview skills. 3- Then verifying the validity of the two hypotheses: A- There are no statistically significant differences in the ranks of the scores of the experimental group members on the scale of the counseling interview skills in the pre and post test B- There are no statistically significant differences between the ranks of the degrees of the experimental and control groups in the post-test As for the second chapter It dealt with the skills of the guided interview, which are (preparation for the interview, interview guide, opening the interview, asking questions, listening, recording the interview and then ending the interview) and previous studies. In the research procedures, a measure of the skills of the guided interview was built and its validity and reliability were verified. on a group of experts and specialists in educational counseling.The results of the research concluded that there are statistically significant differences in the post-test between the control and experimental groups and in favor of the experimental group.
