Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of the Power-of-Thinking Strategy on the acquisition of grammatical concepts among intermediate school female students. To achieve this objective, the researchers adopted a partially controlled experimental design involving two groups: an experimental group and a control group.

The sample was purposively selected from second-grade intermediate female students in the Al-Khalis District during the academic year (2025–2026). The total number of participants was (66) students, divided into two groups: (34) students in the experimental group, taught using the Power-of-Thinking Strategy, and (32) students in the control group, taught using the conventional teaching method.

The researchers equaled between the female students in the two groups based on the following variables: (chronological age in months, intelligence, prior achievement in Arabic language, and the educational level of the parents). The researchers developed a research instrument in the form of a test on “the acquisition of grammatical concepts,” consisting of (30) multiple-choice items, after verifying its validity, reliability, and psychometric properties (difficulty coefficient, discriminant power, and alternative validity).

After implementation of the experiment, which lasted a full academic term, and the statistical analysis of the data using an independent samples t-test, the research reached the following conclusion:

There is a statistically significant difference at the (0.05) level between the mean scores of the female students in the experimental group who studied using the Power of Thinking Strategy, and the mean scores of the students in the control group who were taught using the conventional method on the test of grammatical concept acquisition, and for the experimental group; as the arithmetic mean for the experimental group was (24.088), while that for the control group was (18.250).

In light of that result, the study came up with a set of recommendations and suggestions, including:

The necessity of adopting the power of thinking strategy in teaching Arabic grammar rules for the intermediate school level, due to its effect on the acquisitionof concepts. Conducting a study that examines the effect of this strategy on other dependent variables, such as (creative thinking) or (written expression).
