The Effect of the Flipped Classroom Strategy on the Achievement of Second-Year Intermediate Students and the Development of Their Attitude toward Social Studies

This research aims at identifying the effect of the flipped classroom strategy on the achievement of second intermediate grade students and the development of their Attitude in social studies. To achieve this objective, the researcher formulated appropriate hypotheses. The research was determined on second-year intermediate students (the research sample) in schools in Maysan Governorate / Al-Majjar Al-Kabir District (intermediate and secondary). The researcher used a quasi-experimental design, as Al-Hadibiyah Intermediate School for Boys was chosen intentionally to represent the research sample. Section (A) was chosen randomly to represent the experimental group and Section (B) to represent the control group. The number of the students of the sample was (60) students, (30) students for the experimental group and (30) students for the control group. The equivalence of the two research groups was verified. The experiment was implemented in the first semester. From Sunday, October 13, 2024, to Tuesday, December 24, 2024, the results were analyzed using SPSS statistical methods. The results showed the following:
- Students in the experimental group outperformed the control group on the achievement test on the scale measuring attitudes toward social studies, as well as their superiority in the attitude scale toward Social Studies
Based on the research findings, the researcher concluded:
- The flipped classroom strategy, within the scope of this research, proved effective in increasing the achievement of second-year middle school students in social studies.
Considering the results, the researcher recommended:
- The necessity of conducting training courses for social studies teachers to familiarize them with modern teaching strategies and methods, including the flipped classroom strategy.
The researcher offered several suggestions, including:
- Conducting similar studies at other educational levels to determine the impact of using the flipped classroom strategy in teaching social studies.
